Canan Coskun’s role as Head of Primary has positioned her in a unique leadership role where she can serve the Calamvale community in ways that are meaningful and productive.
Wisdom College is an exceptionally diverse learning community, consisting of 44 difference cultural backgrounds.
Many students come from non-English speaking families from diverse socio-economic contexts. This is a challenge that Canan relishes. She works closely with the community and a range of experts to ensure learning is relevant for all students, and to ensure Wisdom College is constantly driven to improve.
To support student learning, Canan works hard to ensure her staff are well equipped to provide the best possible learning experiences.
Canan is proud of her work in developing the school’s values, which she passionately uses to promote a positive school culture. These values also form the basis of the school’s vision and mission.
Moreover, Canan is leading a staff book study on Robert Marzano’s ‘The Art and Science of Teaching’ and has encouraged the executive team to engage closely with works around inquiry-based pedagogy to support a whole-school pedagogical framework around inquiry practice.
Canan seeks to be an instructional leader and believes in modelling the behaviours and values she wishes her staff and students to adopt. This includes her openness and availability with staff and students.
Canan is a big believer in always challenging herself. To develop her leadership skills and capacity further, she is constantly pursuing development opportunities and drawing on educational research to enhance staff knowledge.
She intends to undertake a Masters in Leadership and Management, which will equip her with the skills to better support and nurture her staff and students. The Wisdom College community is one lucky one indeed!
Congratulations Canan on your nomination.
