Candace Parkyn

Sheldon College

Candace Parkyn’s development of virtual learning environments has changed the learning landscape at Sheldon College.

Candace uses pedagogical frameworks to design lessons that help build confidence and foster collaboration in the classroom.

Australian Curriculum standards were implemented in to the Colleges’ virtual learning framework through Candace’s efforts.

Practical and real-world learning experiences were designed by her to teach students how to work and build robotics projects.

In one example, Candace facilitated a project for Year 7 students where in teams of five they had to design, construct and market a financially self-sustainable solar panel light.

She also also co-developed student workshops on laser-cutting, 3D printing, soldering and circuit board wiring.
Not only has Candace revolutionised the way her students approach new technologies, she has also led staff members in improving their teaching practices in Technology.

Parents within the college community can also come along to one of Candace’s workshops to better understand the nuances of technological learning in their children’s classrooms.

Principal Dr Lyn Bishop says Candace has developed wonderful interpersonal relationships with her colleagues and students.

“She is an outstanding young teacher who has the best interests of her students at heart,” Dr Bishop says.
Head of the Technology Faculty Vanessa Noonan says Candace has taken the lead in developing a framework for assisting in differentiating student progress within the Technology Faculty.

“She has been committed to all facets of the Faculty, and has gone above and beyond the student level of the College,” Vanessa says.

Congratulations Candace on your nomination.
