The Southport School
Corey Tones is a beginning teacher who is passionate about the fullest development of all his students.
The Year 5 teacher from The Southport School on the Gold Coast effectively implements a range of digital technologies that cater for visual, auditory and kinaesthetic learners, and injects real-world experiences into lessons. He gives students the freedom to direct their own learning by choosing the topics the lessons are focused on.
Two key components of Corey’s journey thus far, are his collegiality and willingness to reflect. In an educational setting full of colleagues that have much greater experience and knowledge, Corey actively seeks out advice and expertise that will benefit his own pedagogical practices.
TSS Deputy Principal Mark Wyer commends Corey on the unquestionable professionalism of his manner and conduct.
“Corey brings a composed, self-assured approach that is appreciated by the boys and families in his class,” says Mark.
Corey’s school involvement stretches well beyond the hours of eight to three. He is the coach of many sporting teams, and avidly leads students on holiday trips. This has the potential to strengthen relationships with the children in his care and boost productivity inside the classroom.
Congratulations Corey on your nomination.
