Jeremy Wood

Calamvale Community College

Despite teaching at Calamvale Community College for only a short time, Jeremy Wood has already made a visible impact.

Having spent the past five years completing his country service at Dalby State High School, 2017 has seen Jeremy – a Drama and Legal Studies teacher – embracing new challenges, including taking on new subjects and continuing a personal commitment to extracurricular involvement in the school community.

Jeremy has effectively implemented the philosophy of explicit instruction in his unit planning.

He maximises his students’ success by engaging them through “I Do, We Do and You Do” – three key elements in the successful implementation of explicit instruction.

In order to help students reach their goals, Jeremy has used different learning strategies, such as group discussions and digital literacies.

In combination with ability differentiation to cater for all his students, Jeremy effectively implements student learning experiences.

He is also passionate about the arts, with College Principal Lisa Starmer commending him on his efforts and praising his inclusion to the college staff.

“He immediately took a lead role in the direction and co-ordination of several dramatic performances for public presentation,” Ms Starmer says.
Through his passion and dedication to his craft, Jeremy has developed positive relationships with his students, his co-workers and the wider college community.

Congratulations Jeremy on your nomination.
