Matthew Potter

Tagai State College, Thursday Island Campus

An outstanding teacher from one of Queensland’s most remote schools, Matthew Potter, has been nominated for a Queensland College of Teachers Excellence in Teaching Award.

Matthew Potter has delivered Professional Development at Tagai State College (TSC) on Improving Reading and Writing in the Classroom and is a lead teacher in the school’s signature pedagogy – Explicit Instruction.

The TSC Thursday Island Primary Campus teacher is an active school community member who has formed strong working relationships with parents, fellow teachers and the wider community. He also has a great rapport with students.

Thursday Island Primary Campus HOC Sandra Cathcart says Matthew is “an exceptionally talented teacher who has achieved significant learning outcomes for all students in the classroom”.

“His lessons are dynamic and relate to many aspects of his students’ life in the Torres Strait,” Sandra says.

Congratulations Matthew on your nomination.
